Despite the broken leg, the mother dog carried all 13 puppies to the safest hiding place

Stray Rescue from St. Louis came across a dog with an injured leg. Of course they planned to save her, but what they didn’t know was that they were about to save a lot more.

Shortly after rescuing the dog, they noticed that it had milk. That’s when they knew that this bitch was a new mother and that she had puppies somewhere nearby. Rescuers knew they had to look for them and act fast.

They went straight under the bushes where the mother dog lived to see if her puppies were there. The rescuers pushed the branches aside and crawled through the bushes until they finally discovered a small burrow.

Inside the den, a hole in the ground that was like a “safe haven”, were not just a few puppies, but 13! Their mother did such a good job of hiding them to keep them safe and warm.

Rescuers carefully placed the puppies into a container one by one before bringing them and their mother back to the rescue. There, they were able to provide the mother and cubs with the medical care they needed.

The mother will undergo surgery on her injured leg and all the puppies will be spayed and neutered and eventually put up for adoption once they are old enough.

Meanwhile, Stray Rescue of St. Louis is looking for individuals/families to foster puppies. They offer classes and have more information on their website which you can read by clicking here.
